Guitar Lessons in Athens, GA

Acoustic or electric, first chord or first gig. One-on-one guitar lessons built around the music you want to play — at Rabbit Hole Studios, at your home, or live on Zoom.

Taught by Nick Bradfield or Sean T. Conlon

From $45 · 30-minute lesson

Most people who quit guitar quit in the first few months, and almost always for the same reason: the lessons were about exercises, and the exercises were not music. Here the songs you care about are the curriculum. Technique gets taught because a song needs it, which is the only way it sticks.

Every lesson is private, so the pace is yours. If you already play, we find the gap — rhythm that drags, a fretboard you only know in one position, solos that all sound the same — and close it. If you are starting from nothing, you will be playing something recognisable sooner than you expect.

Songs first

Pick the songs. Chords, strumming, riffs and theory get taught through them, not instead of them.

One-on-one

Private lessons move at your speed and go where you need them — no group, no fixed syllabus to sit through.

Learn in a real studio

In-person lessons happen at Rabbit Hole Studios, so recording yourself is part of learning, not a someday.

At home or on Zoom

Lessons can come to your place within 50 miles of Athens, or run live over Zoom from wherever you practise.

What guitar lessons can cover

  • Open chords, barre chords, and changing between them cleanly
  • Strumming and fingerpicking patterns that actually groove
  • Learning songs by ear and from tabs or charts
  • The fretboard: scales and shapes you can use, not just memorise
  • Lead playing, bends, and building a solo that says something
  • Writing your own parts and progressions

Frequently asked questions

How much are guitar lessons?
On a monthly plan, lessons are $45 for 30 minutes, $60 for 45, or $75 for 60; a single lesson is $10 more. Online lessons cost the same as studio lessons. In-home lessons add travel at $100 an hour of round-trip drive time from Athens — roughly up to $65 within 15 miles, and up to about $220 at 50 miles. Full details are on the pricing page.
Do I need my own guitar?
For practice between lessons, yes — progress happens in the week, not just the hour. If you're shopping for your first guitar, ask before you buy. A badly set-up guitar is one of the most common reasons beginners give up.
Acoustic or electric — which should I start on?
Start on the one that plays the music you love. The fundamentals transfer both ways, and motivation matters more than the "right" first instrument.
Can I take guitar lessons on Zoom?
Yes. You need a laptop, tablet or phone with a camera, a steady connection, and your guitar. Everything else — chords, technique, songs — works live over video.
I already play. Is this worth it?
Usually, yes. Self-taught players tend to plateau on the same few things. A private lesson finds your specific gap and works on that instead of starting you from scratch.
